COMMISSIONS The commissions established by the Board of Directors, are working in a designated area of CISM activity. These are : The basic role of commissions is to undertake studies in the principal activities of CISM to assist the Board of Directors. Each commission is responsible to manage, lead, and develop the activity in its mandated area of responsibility. Each commission proposes policy, procedures or actions and presents reports to the General Assembly as decided by the Board of Directors. The Discipline Commission The Discipline Commission has not the same role as the other commissions. The Commission does not undertake any studies and assist the Board of Directors. It decides on disciplinary matters and provides an analysis to the General Assembly (through the BoD) The Appeal Commission The role of the Appeal Commission is to examine in an independent, objective and impartial manner any appeals to the decisions of the CISM Discipline Commission or CISM authorities. The Appeal Commission is the final CISM level of appeal and its decisions are binding. It is the right of any aggrieved party to appeal to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Appeal Commission is composed of a president and three members appointed by the President of CISM from a list of nominees drawn from military delegates. This list is approved annually by the General Assembly. The composition may vary for different appeals.The Appeal Commission is an independent body, not subject to the direction of the Board of Directors or General Assembly. The President and the members appointed to the Commission shall all be independent of the case being considered.
