On the last 9 and 10 December, one hundred days before the opening of the First Winter Military World Games in the Aosta Valley, a CISM (International Military Sport Council) delegation, led by the President, General Gianni Gola, has met the members of the Organizing Committee into the regional capital, in order to check the logistic and technical updating of the event.
Many countries have already officially confirmed their presence at the games, and the ambitious goal of having 40 participating nations is every day more concrete.
Until now, more than 800 athletes have entered to the tight calendar of the competitions that will take place from 20 to 25 March 2010 in some of the most beautiful ski resorts of the Region, as Pila, Flassin, Brusson, Gressoney, Cogne and Courmayeur.
Among the many events promoted during the Military Games, there will be an international Forum, highly supported also by the I.O.C., concerning the rule of military sport in the service of peace. Distinguished speakers and the Chiefs of Mission of the participating Countries will debate on the matter and present their own experiences. The main point will be a message of peace, as already happened in 2007 during the Military World Games of Hiderabad (India), which will be consecrated in a special declaration addressed to the highest political authorities of the 131 Nations, members of the CISM, and to the most important International Organizations. The forum will take place in Aosta at the Regional Palace, seats of the Regional Government, in the morning of 20 March 2010.
At the end of the meetings and technical inspections of the competition sites, the CISM President has once more congratulated the organizers and the regional authorities for the excellent progress of the preparatory works and has declared: “I appreciate very much the strong involvement of the young athletes of the local ski clubs, to whom we will offer the opportunity of racing in a special competition during the Games; I also notice with satisfaction how ahead is the awareness campaign among the students of the Aosta Valley of an event, which is not only a sport but even a big peace event.” |
