Tuesday 15 December
FISU stands for Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (International University Sports Federation), founded in 1949. FISU's main responsibility is the supervision of both Summer and Winter Universiades as well as the World University Championships. The Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival which is staged every two years in a different city and which is second in importance only to the Olympic Games.
FISU also provides an educational program with the FISU Forum, the FISU Conference and the Rector’s Forum.
Obviously, FISU and CISM have a lot of common specificities and for a long time, there have been contacts between our leaders to study the different possibilities of collaboration. On Tuesday 15 December, the CISM Secretary General, Colonel Morisod and the CISM Executive Director, Mr. Verhelle met at the FISU Headquarters the FISU Secretary General, and the respective directors of Summer and Winter Universiades as well as the director of FISU world championships.
Keen on helping CISM to further develop its place inside the world, FISU accepted to hold out its hand to our organization. Next year, a workshop CISM-FISU will be held at the FISU headquarters in Brussels to assess the different ways for development that CISM could undertake.
A true sign of respect and a real sense of friendship between our “twins” organizations!
