CISM village made its debut at the Rome Olympics in 1960. The 1972 Munich Olympics and the 1988 Seoul Olympics also set up a similar CISM village. The following Olympic Games failed to build a village until more recently, Torino in 2006 organized a CISM House and Beijing 2008 hosted a CISM village.
Now for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler, CISM Canada will host a CISM Club in Whistler and will continue with the CISM tradition.
Aim: Promote the CISM program in Whistler throughout the Games and provide a meeting space for CISM delegates and athletes from member nations to further foster “Friendship through Sport”. The basic goal of the CISM Club is to provide an opportunity for military athletes and officials to get together. At the same time it is important to show the international sports world that military sport is an integral part of the Olympic movement.
CISM Club will offer an internet cafe, televisions for watching Olympic events and space to conduct meetings and mingle. Light refreshments and a cash bar will also be available. In addition CISM Club will also offer some evening special events. All members of CISM are welcome!
Please note that all interested members who wish to have access to CISM Club in Whistler must present government issued identification (passport, military i.d., Olympic accreditation).
We are located just steps away from the Whistler Medal Presentation site and as such all CISM medal winners are encouraged to stop by after they are awarded their medal.
VANOC will provide an ongoing shuttle from the Whistler Athlete’s Village to a stop that is located just outside of the CISM Club. CISM CANADA WILL NOT PROVIDE OR BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: TRANSPORTATION, ACCOMMODATIONS OR ANY EVENT TICKETS. |
