This 14th April 2010 is a very important date in the CISM History as Indonesia officially becomes our 133rd Member Nation.
Reacting on this excellent news, General Gola, CISM President declared : “On behalf of the military sports family all over the world, I have the true pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all the military athletes representing the Armed Forces of such a huge and important country of the world. All our gratitude must be addressed to the Indonesian military and political authorities who have taken the decision to join CISM. I would like to address a special and personal thank you to Ms Rita Subowo, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Indonesia and IOC member, with whom I have had the privilege to collaborate on the Indonesian Membership over the past months. We are all very enthusiastic to meet our new friends in our sports fields.”

Despite its large population and densely populated regions, Indonesia has vast areas of wilderness that support the world's second highest level of biodiversity. The country is richly endowed with natural resources, yet poverty remains widespread in contemporary Indonesia.
Indonesia's 300,000-member armed forces include the Army, Navy (which includes marines), and Air Force. The army has about 233,000 active-duty personnel.
Sports are popular in Indonesia from both the participation and spectating aspect. Association football is the most popular sport, followed closely by badminton.Sporting events are organized by the Indonesian National Sport Committee (Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia or KONI). The Indonesian government has set the National Sports Day on September 9.
