We’re just 15 away from the kickoff of the biggest military sporting event ever organized in France, announced Annecy 2013 president General Jean-René Bachelet, World Winter Games organizing committee members, and the main public officials involved in the event at a press conference unveiling the full program of the games. From 25 to 29 March, 1,000 competitors from 40 nations, representing some of the world’s top athletes in their disciplines, will celebrate friendship through sport. As the culmination of this year’s international winter sports competition season, this event has a very big name in French skiing on the marquee: Olympic champion Vincent Defrasne. In the presence of French national ministers for sports and defense, thousands of spectators are expected at the opening ceremony in Annecy on 25 March.
Amendment of the 2nd CISM WWG Regulations, Handbook 2.2
Following an extraordinary request received from WINOC concerning the modification of the 2nd CISM WWG Regulations, Handbook 2.2 - Sport Technical Regulatioons, the CISM WWG Coordination Committee decided to exceptionally validate this request

Annecy 2013 reached 100 day milestone
The countdown to the 2nd CISM World Winter Games in Annecy (FRA) is closing in. In less than 100 days, on Monday, March 25, the world’s best military winter athletes from more than 40 different countries will gather at Esplanade du Pâquier, on the shore of Lake Annecy, the purest lake in Europe, ringed by snow-capped mountains for the athlete’s parade and opening ceremonies. The lighting of the flame will mark the kickoff of five days of sport and celebration in the heart of the French Alps.
“Everything is ready to welcome the great event in around three month’s time! We keep working, meeting up, fixing the last details and ticking the last boxes on our list. I would especially like to thank the civilian local authorities and the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade which is giving us great helps in all activities”, said Colonel Vincent Lapouge, the Director of Annecy 2013 Organizing Committee (WINOC).
With the first snow already on the Haute-Savoie region, the infrastructure is almost ready for the kick-off.

The city is pleased and proud to welcome the 2nd CISM World Winter Games and its contingent of leading international champions for this exciting sports event. On Thursday, September 13, Colonel Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), and General Jean-Rene Bachelet, President of Annecy 2013, officially signed the organizing contract for the 2nd CISM World Winter Games in Annecy, France. From March 25 to 29, 2013, the city will play host to the largest military sports event ever held in the country. Nearly 1,000 athletes from 40 countries—including some of the world’s top competitors in their respective disciplines—will gather for this celebration of sporting excellence and friendship between peoples. A successful visit
From the 11th to the 13th of September, the 2nd World Winter Military Games Coordination Committee and the CISM ski commission went to Annecy to visit all the competitions sites and to meet all the people involved in that competition just 6 months before the beginning of this event. The members of the organizing committee of Annecy 2013 have welcomed them very warmly. They went to all the competitions venues:
Chamonix for ski mountaineering,
La Clusaz for alpine skiing,
Le Grand Bornand for Nordic skiing and biathlon
Annecy for climbing, short track and ski orienteering.
They also visited all the accommodations based around the Lake.
The coordination committee and the ski commission saw that everything was ok in the organization of the games and they could exchange with all the civilian and military venues managers of the technical, sports and logistical points. The commission, the coordination committee and the PIG will continue to work close together during the next 6 months for the success of games on the sports aspects but for the welcome of the athletes and spectators too. They saw the perfect collaboration between the militaries and the civilians (cities, department, region, sports associations...). The official dinner in the 27th alpine troop’s battalion with the CISM president colonel Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, the general (R) Jean-René Bachelet president of the PIG Annecy 2013 and the president of the department of Haute-Savoie has permitted to reinforce the links between all the responsibles. After 2 days of visit and meeting, all the people met them a last time in the city hall of Seynod for the last debriefing meeting where all the points were discussed between the 2 parts of the organization. The 2nd CISM World Winter Games’ hosts have launched the Groupement d’Intérêt Public
On Wednesday 11 July, the hosts to the 2013 CISM World Winter Games held a general meeting to officially launch the Groupement d’Intérêt Public, the organization in charge of the event to take place 25 to 29 March 2013. This major international competition will welcome a great “corps of champions,” nearly 1,000 competitors from 40 countries, including many of the world’s best athletes in their respective disciplines. “We achieved a major milestone today, and I thank all the partners who rallied around this exciting project,” said General Bachelet, who was officially appointed president of the GIP, alongside with Vincent Vittoz, famous cross-country ski champion, as vice-president. “We now have an organizing committee that’s fully legal – and firing on all cylinders. With nearly eight months to go until the World Winter Games, the teams are making strides every day to ensure that this wonderful event, which epitomizes ‘friendship through sports,’ is a success.”
CISM Skiing Committee and CISM Coordination Committee Meetings and Sites Visit for the 2nd CISM WWG - Annecy

French Delegation and CISM have launched the invitation file for the CISM Skiing Committee and CISM Coordination Committee Meetings and Sites Visit for the 2nd CISM World Winter Games, which will take place in Annecy from 10th to 14th September 2012.
Besides the regular agenda meeting amongst the members of the Skiing Committee, specific points focusing on the preparation of the 2nd CISM WWG will be intensively discussed during these 4 days.
After this visit, CISM Coordination Committee will prepare a report to the Board of Directors in November on the ongoing preparation and follow-up of the Games.

Annecy 2013 reveals its logo
The organization committee of the 2nd CISM World Winter Games, which will take place in March 2013 in Annecy, in the heart of the French Alps, revealed the logo of the event.
The symbol represents a snowflake marrying the outlines of the French territory. Its graphic process underlines the dynamism and the modernity of the event. The logo integrates various colors to suggest the international size of the competition and its vocation of gathering diversities.
Meeting in Bled, Slovenia
From 13 to 16 last September, the CISM Sports Committee for Skiing Meeting and Site Visit of the locations of the 52nd CISM World Military Skiing Championships 2012 took place in Slovenia, in the beautiful city of Bled. The 2nd CISM World Winter Games Project Manager and a French team representing WINOC were invited to take part in this meeting in order to start the preparation of the Regulations for this second edition of the Winter Games.
All participants were warmly welcomed by the President of the Skiing Sport Committee, Lt-Col. Jure VELEPEC. On 13 September afternoon they were received in Pokljuka by Brigadier General Andrej OSTERMAN, the President of the Slovenian Organizing Committee for the 52nd CISM WM Skiing Championship next year.
Besides the regular agenda meeting amongst the members of the Skiing Committee, specific points focusing on the preparation of the WWG regulations were intensively discussed during these 3 days. At the end of the meetings, the participants managed to come up with a proposal for the first draft of the Technical Regulations of the 2nd CISM WWG (Handbook 2.1) and the Sports Regulations of the Games (Handbook 2.2).
The first draft of the 2nd CISM WWG General Regulations will be drafted by 2nd WWG PM and will be made available for the CISM CC and French OC shortly. This draft is going to be discussed and amended during the next 3 months and most probably, next year, in January, a decisive meeting will take place in Brussels with the participation of all involved actors to finalize these regulations.
Thanked to Slovenian support, this meeting has completely achieved his goal.

Meeting in Paris, 06 September
On 6th September 2011, in Paris, a meeting was organized by the CISM HQ together with the French Delegation, and the representatives of the two CISM partners companies, Sport Extra Time and Grinaker Sponsorship and Marketing to start designing the effective organization of the 2nd CISM World Winter Games 2013 in Annecy.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of SET in Levallois-Perret. This was the occasion to review the report of the 1st edition of the Winter Games in Aosta and to prepare the procedures, methodology and timings of the next steps in the preparation of the Games. The success of the recent summer Games, in terms of TV broadcasting was evoked too and plans were studied to confer the Winter Games 2013 with an efficient TV, Sponsoring and Broadcasting policy.
The next meeting is planned for the 3rd week of September, together with the Members of the CISM Skiing Committee and French Organizing Committee to start reflecting on the technical regulations for the event.
ATTRIBUTION
The 2nd CISM World Winter Games were attributed to the city of Annecy at the CISM General Assembly and Congress held in Seoul, in 12 May 2011. The second candidate was Sochi (RUS).
France, the Land Forces and the City of Annecy administrated by its mayor Jean-Luc RIGAUT,presented the French candidature to organize the 2nd CISM World Winter Games. This candidature was supported with enthusiasm and commitment by all public authorities on the national, regional, departmental and local levels.
Annecy is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy (Lac d'Annecy), 35 kilometers south of Geneva.
Annecy and Savoy-Mont Blanc are the French candidate to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympics Winter Games.
