The Star of Sports Merit may be conferred by the Secretary General on military athletes who have participated in and demonstrated excellence in Category 1 or Category 2 CISM sports. The Star of Sports Merit comprises four grades : Double Gold Star; Gold Star; Silver Star; Bronze Star.
According to the obtained results, the CISM athletes receive points, which are collected through all the competitions (civilian and CISM) to include a minimum of two (2) CISM Category 1 or Category 2 Championships. The total obtained points determines the Sports Merit level.

The last General Assembly approved the modification of the conditions for awarding the “CISM Star of Sport Merit” (Decision File 05/172). The awarding of the Star does no longer depend on the results of the athlete, but on the number of championships he/she participated in.
In a few words, the Sports Commission came to the conclusion that if an athlete managed to qualify for a CISM World Championship, 2, 4, 6 or 9 times, it simply meant that the athlete was of a very high level. The main intention is to make the awarding easier for the athletes; and to have more athletes wearing the decorations. The new system came into force from 01/01/06.
As we start receiving some request, we thought that it was necessary to remind you this new procedure.
There are 4 categories of awards depending of the number of Military World Championships the athlete participated in.

An official request form must be filled in by the Chief of Delegation and returned to the CISM HQ where the results will be checked. Advance payment is required.
When the results are checked, the medals, the certificates are sent to the Chiefs of Delegations, who have to distribute the awards in their Armed Forces. The cost for the medal and the corresponding bar is 46€. It is also possible to order only the bar for the cost of 8€.
We hope to receive numerous requests allowing our military athletes to wear a proud mark on their uniform of their sportive excellence (a bar in CISM colours with 1 or 2 stars).
