CISM – Klichko Brothers Cup
Kiev, Ukraine April 2007


The Ukraine delegation organized this cup in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, from 16 – 21 April 2007. The Klitchko brothers, former Olympic and world champions, are living legends in Ukraine.

Colonel Alexandre Velichko (CoD) introduced a competition system, which made it possible to box all the finals – 11 weight categories – between a soldier (CISM) and a civilian (Klitchko Cup).

In a boxing hall, with 5000 (!) spectators and a live broadcast, CISM athletes won nearly 50% of their finals. It was a true demonstration of “Friendship Through Sport,” well underlined by the presence of ministers of defence and sport.
1st International Military Track & Field Indoor Meeting in Luxembourg

In the frame of the “Pedus Indoor Meeting ”, an international track and field indoor meeting organized by the National Athletics Federation, the Luxembourg CISM delegation hosted the 1st International Military Track & Field Indoor Meeting in Luxembourg. Military missions from Germany, Greece, Switzerland and Luxembourg had chosen this competition to start the athletics season which will have as highlight the 4th Military World Games at Hyderabad in October. The athletes competed in the events of the Pedus indoor meeting but a separate classification for military athletes was established for the 60 m and the 200 m runs.   

Important for the athletics sport in CISM but also for the small Luxembourg CISM delegation, this international meeting, organized in close cooperation with the national federation, encountered a great success. The present athletes had the opportunity to compete in a high level competition and benefited from a large media coverage. The chosen type of organization was a good solution and should be an example for smaller delegations with limited resources that nevertheless intend to organize a military championship.

Militaire d’Athlétisme Indoor à
Luxembourg
25 – 28 janvier 2007

Dans le cadre du  « Pedus Indoor Meeting »,un meeting international d’athlétisme de haut niveau, organisé par la Fédération Luxembourgeoise d’Athlétisme, la délégation luxembourgeoise du CISM avait  programmé le 1er Meeting International Militaire d’Athlétisme Indoor. Les équipes militaires de l’Allemagne, de la Grèce, de la Suisse et du Luxembourg avaient choisi cette manifestation sportive

pour débuter leur saison d’athlétisme dont la manifestation principale seront les 4ième Jeux Mondiaux Militaires à Hyderabad en octobre. Les athlètes disputaient les épreuves du Pedus meeting, mais un classement militaire séparé a été établi pour les courses du 60 m et du 200 m. 

De grande importance pour l’athlétisme au sein du CISM, mais également pour la délégation luxembourgeoise, ce meeting international organisé en étroite collaboration avec un organisateur civil, a été un grand succès et a connu une couverture médiatique très importante. Les athlètes présents ont pu disputer des concours de haut niveau, dans un cadre leur permettant de réaliser de bonnes performances.

Le choix de ce type d’organisation s’est révélé concluant et peut servir d’exemple à des délégations, ne disposant que de ressources limitées, mais désireuses d’organiser un championnat militaire.
