Since the General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt in 1951, according to the initiative of Captain Raoul Mollet (Belgium) and Captain Edmond Petit (France), CISM has decided to concentrate efforts on activities of physical training scientific studies. Along the way, CISM has been educating militaries and civilians around the world through symposia, clinics, and seminars.

BGen Gola Nevertheless, following the development of sport worldwide which now requires more administrative skills, CISM has decided to change the focus on the symposium issues, from training scientific matters to the sports management field.

Starting this year in SofiaBulgaria, the symposium will be organized under the patronage of the CISM President - B. Gen. Dr. Gianni Gola, and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria - Mr. Nicolay Tsonev, on the theme: Sports activities - “How to emphasize the importance of sports within the Armed Forces at national and international level”, from 24 to 25 September 2008.

CISM, being the only world wide organization focusing on sports within Armed Forces, organizes this symposium with the double objective:

- To identify the potentialities of the Armed Forces sporting activities as marketable products;

- To create institutional, economical and sportive attractiveness on the CISM image on both its internal military level and on the international sporting markets. Apart from these specific objectives, CISM also intends to create an environment for sharing new concepts, and practical experiences facilitating discussions in order to establish a new culture and mentality within the military sports administrators regarding communication and marketing.

It is without doubt another extraordinary initiative, to which all the Chiefs of Delegation and the person responsible for Communication and Marketing will all have the chance to discuss and expand on the subject with distinguished experts of the international sport, military, and cultural world.
