On the 3rd of April, the CISM Secretary General was received by Mr. Sepp Blatter, to brief the FIFA President about the CISM – FIFA projects in 2007 and the upcoming projects in 2008. In a former meeting in 2007, the FIFA President proudly explained that he many years ago – as a young Swiss Lieutenant – helped in the organization of a CISM – Military World Championship Skiing in Switzerland!!!
This is the reason why CISM wanted to award him as a “CISM – Soldier fighting for Peace”. (see photo)

10 years of Presidency

Today, the 18th of April, is the 10th anniversary of my election as President of the International Military Sports Council.

I can still remember the great emotion I felt when, at the end of the General Assembly of Baden (Vienna), my predecessor General Arthur Zechner handed me over the Presidency.

It has been a long and intense period for CISM, which, like many other international organisations, has significantly grown and developed. Especially this year, while celebrating the 60th Anniversary, Military Sport keeps performing a paramount international role, by giving life to many initiatives and expanding more and more its mission, from sport to friendship, from peace-keeping to solidarity.

For me it has been, and it still is, a great privilege to lead this Organization and carrying  out my role with the same enthusiasm as when I begun this adventure and it is a pleasure, to witness how many members of our organisation dedicate their efforts and passion for the development of CISM and military sport.

I often think that the decision I took ten years ago, to place both my long experience as sports manager and my skills at disposal of CISM, was a good one, worth to be taken.

I celebrate this particular date of my 10 years of Presidency with great joy and satisfaction. I express my deepest gratitude for your appreciation, consideration and for the consent I received during these years.

Long life to CISM!

Respectfully.

The President
B. Gen. Dr. Gianni GOLA

60th CISM Anniversary Celebration

CISM symbolically celebrated the 60th anniversary of its CISM foundation.

On 18th February 2008, the CISM President, B.Gen. Dr. Gianni Gola, welcomed at the CISM Headquarters several high dignitaries and representatives of the 5 CISM Founder nations, NATO, the Olympic Committee, and some representatives of the CISM Member Nations which provide the personnel to the CISM Secretary General at the CISM House. On this occasion the CISM President came back on the CISM Major achievements since its birth. The audience could testimony the utmost important role played by CISM to develop military sport and strengthen the brotherhood and friendship common to all military athletes. All participants strongly encouraged CISM to continue its mission of peace and education. The General Assembly and Congress to be held next May in Switzerland will be the theatre of further celebrations.
